In the Studio

Legacy takes great pride in being able to bring professional quality gear to the home audiophile. But if you really want to see where our products shine, take a look inside the studio.

Phat Planet Recording Studio

“Bill, this is Greg Begland from Phat Planet Studios in Orlando.  It was a real pleasure to meet you finally at the audio show.  I have admired your designs since high school when I had some of the old glossy photos from your old mailer catalogs in my locker.  Aaron and I thought you had some of the best sound of any systems at RMAF – if you couldn’t tell by my reaction after we played our demo.”  - Greg Begland, Phat Plant Studios

Dan Stout relies on the FOCUS and Studio speaker system.

Dan Stout of Colossal Mastering Chicago, relies on the FOCUS and Studio speaker system in his main mastering studio.

Dan Stout is a ten-year veteran of the recording industry with experience in multiple facets of the recording process. He's also a musician with a diverse musical background, both playing and listening. Prior to co-founding Colossal Mastering in 1997, Stout was a staff engineer at Chicago Recording Company and Universal Recording before that. It was at CRC that Dan began to focus on his engineering field of choice, mastering. His ever-expanding mastering clientele led him to the decision to create a world-class mastering company in Chicago. Colossal has since attracted clients from across the U.S. and beyond in every genre, as well as serving Chicago's booming recording community.

Herb Power of Power’s House of Sound, had this to say about his Legacy FOCUS speakers:

I rely on FOCUS in my home as one of the final checks of my studio work. They are a great bridge between the studio monitor sound and the ”smooth” home sound.  FOCUS has the range and detail to handle even the most dynamic recordings.”

Powers House of Sound, which opened in 1997, is the product of Herb Powers' three decades of experience in mastering, including stints as an engineer at Frankford/Wayne Mastering and Hit Factory Mastering (where he also served as chief engineer for nine years). During that time, Powers built up a formidable clientele that in many instances dates back to his work as a DJ in several pioneering Manhattan dance clubs.

It was there that he laid the foundation for a mastering philosophy that aims to make records "sound as good as they can in the real world, on the kinds of playback systems that people actually use, not only what you see in the audiophile magazines," Powers says.

Powers' clients include Lauryn Hill, TLC, Mase, Puff Daddy, Babyface, Jay Z, Usher, Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, Mary J. Blige, Brian McKnight, Will Smith, Jennifer Lopez, Toni Braxton, Notorious BIG, Kirk Franklin and Vanessa Williams.

Steve Hoffman chose the Legacy Whisper™ system as his reference.

Steve Hoffman

“Whether it’s the velvety croon of Nat ”King” Cole, or the screaming guitar of Eddie Van Halen, Whisper reveals what I call “The Breath of Life”; the very essence of these recordings.”  - Steve Hoffman legendary remastering engineer .

Steve Hoffman is an audio engineer from Los Angeles, California, who specializes in remastering sound recordings on compact disc and vinyl record. In the 1980s, he worked at MCA for nine years. Grammy Award Winning Producer-Rick Rubin

Rubin

American Recordings producer Rick Rubin made Legacy’s FOCUS his personal choice.

“The speakers’ ability to reveal a spectrum of sound virtually invisible to the ear in commercial studios have yielded much more balanced mixes — and endless enjoyment with the music. Artists regularly come over and are astounded by the way their music sounds on my system. Musicians from Tom Petty to members of Rage Against the Machine, Aerosmith, Beastie Boys, and the Wu Tang Clans RZA have claimed to hear clarity and detail they’ve never heard on their own recordings before.

After 20 years of listening to music for a living, often for 12 hours a day, I find that my system has made listening to music fun again!”
-Rick Rubin, The Absolute Sound, Issue 130
